Group of nurses can now afford new stethoscopes
If the Southwest Florida Regional Medical Center seems a little short of nurses in the near future, we will know the reason why. A group of 16 RNs won the Florida Lotto, and are sharing a total jackpot of $6 million.
And here’s the interesting part: before they got together to claim the winnings and speak to the press, all of the nurses turned up for their regular shift on Sunday morning (they all work in the cardiac section of the third floor). There was a lot of excitement brewing on the floor that day, and even the patients knew what had happened.
Each nurse will receive $375,000 before Uncle Sam takes his (more than) fair share.
Husband wins lottery; prefers not to share with wife
Arnim Ramdass just never learned to share.
Ramdass, an American Airline mechanic, was part of a pool of 17 people (all mechanics) who won a lottery jackpot of $19 million. Then he began an impressive charade of keeping it a secret from his wife, Donna Campbell. He disconnected their home telephone, and he never turned on the television (because stories of the winning group were all over the news). But one day, a postcard arrived in the mail – congratulating him on the purchase of a new house. Unfortunately for him, his wife got the mail that day.
After reading the postcard, she did an internet search and discovered the story about the group of American Airline mechanics winning the lottery. After confronting her husband about it, he disappeared and has not been heard from since. So – she is suing him for half of the winnings.
One problem – since he is nowhere to be found, he has not yet been served with the lawsuit papers. But getting half of the lottery winnings is not Campbell’s only plan.
She says, “All I want right now is justice. Later on, I will file for divorce.”
Naked couple wins the Lottery
Brian Tucker and Margaret Dallard won almost $500,000 in the UK Lottery, but they won’t be spending any money on clothes.
Rather than a new wardrobe, the couple have plans to pay off a couple of mortgages and give some money to their children (between them, they have 8 kids). Beyond that, they are planning a trip to a nudist – excuse me, naturist – camp somewhere in Europe.
From millions to bankruptcy in 5 years
The lottery was the best thing, and the worst thing, to happen to Ken Proxmire.
Proxmire was a machinist in Michigan when he won $1 million in the lottery. The next few years were sort of a whirlwind – he moved to California, and went into business. He and his brothers started an automobile business. Things didn’t go so well, and 5 years later Proxmire was filing for bankruptcy.
How can things go so bad so quickly? Well, usually people that are suddenly wealthy don’t really know how to manage that money. They tend to spend too much money on themselves, and on other people.
Ken’s son Rick says, “He was just a poor boy who got lucky and wanted to take care of everybody.”
Rick adds, “We’re just regular everyday folk now. Dad’s now back to work as a machinist. No more talk of riding in limos, or owning a helicopter.”
Millionaire lottery winner goes back to his job – at McDonald’s
Luke Pittard was 24 years old and working at McDonald’s. He bought a lottery ticket, and he won US$2.6 million. So of course he quits his job, marries his sweetheart, and takes a worldwide vacation.
That took about a year and a half. Then he remembered how great his life was when he was working at McDonald’s, so he went back and asked for his old job back. Of course they were happy to have him back.
Do you see anthing wrong with this picture? This guy could do anything he wants with his life. He could spend his days handing out $100 bills to homeless people. He could establish a college scholarship and fund it himself. He could buy random strangers a new car. He could do anything he wants – and he decides that the best way he can spend his life here on this earth is to get up every day and serve junk food to people.
His wife’s reaction? “Oh, I totally understand it.” (Keep in mind, however – she works for McDonald’s as well.)
