So she couldn’t believe it when she realised she had just won $100,000. Margaret was stunned and just started shaking. It wasn’t an easy drive home she said, but thankfully she made it in one piece.

Margaret lives in Vacherie, Louisiana with her husband and daughter. She had planned to take their daughter to Disney World last year. So what are this wealthy family from Syracuse, New York going to do with their big win?

Abraham, 77, says he doesn’t actually need anything, and doesn’t actually want to buy anything really. His wife Celia would like to buy a new house because the stairs are getting hard to deal with.

I would like to keep the house — maybe one of the kids could live in it, but I’d buy a house on one floor in the same area. I do like the city of Syracuse.

Both of the hard working couple plan to keep their jobs, as all their children do too. They intend to remain true to who are they are but just with a little more spending money.

The Silverbush family chose the lump sum option for their jackpot, so take home around $14.6 million after taxes.

The wife heard on Sunday that the Pak n’ Save store in Richmond had sold a winning ticket. Nervously checking their tickets she discovered their big win:

“I realised we had six matching numbers on the last line of one ticket but I couldn’t quite believe it so I checked and checked and checked again, about 10 times, then I asked my husband to have a look.”

Her somewhat shocked husband checked all over again:

“I saw we had all the numbers but the last thing I won was a frozen chicken back in 1975 so I found it hard to really believe we’d won Lotto.”

The unidentified couple live in the Nelson area, but travelled back to Wellington to collect their $333,333 share of the first-division prize yesterday. They made sure to celebrate their win properly with a champagne lunch in Wellington.

The couple have had a few misfortunes during the years, so they were particularly relieved to have money to put towards their mortgages and help out their family and local charities.

Good kid cowboy Neal is single and lives with his parents on the family 320 acre ranch near Mission, Todd County, where they raise cattle, sheep and horses. Rural Todd County in South Dakota is the seventh poorest county in the USA.

The family don’t own a phone, and even had a mobile home repossessed last year. They were in danger of losing their house until Neil had a very lucky day in town.

Bought Tickets Bought In Winner!

Driving into town for some livestock feed, Neil took a chance on $15 worth of tickets for 27 May Powerball draw. He couldn’t help but smile when he explained he bought the tickets at a convenience store in a town called Winner.

The local Mission people and friends were truly happy for Neil and his family, as wearing a black cowboy hat and a huge smile he accepted his giant check in a ceremony on Friday. “I hope they enjoy their money”, said county assessor Cathy Vrbka and family friend, “they work hard, backbreaking hard work.”

He spent the last week working on the ranch and plans to continue that lifestyle. Although he did tell lottery officials he plans to buy himself a bigger spread.

He will also repay the kindness the town have shown to his family. “My family has been helped by the community, and I intend to repay that help many times over”, he said, “I want to thank the Lord for giving me this opportunity and blessing me with this great fortune. I will not squander it” .

Neil chose the lump sum option for his winnings, so even after taxes are deducted, he walks away with a new bank balance of $88.5 million. Making him one of the biggest lottery jackpot winners in US lottery history.

Open a nude dude ranch of course!

Tim proudly opened the doors for business just a few weeks ago using his winnings from the Florida lottery, but local Brooksville neighbors saw his new sign and started asking questions. And county code enforcement officers were drafted in to check out the ranch.

And unfortunately Tim didn’t realise that providing B&B facilities and spaces for RV’s needed local authority permission, so clothing optional ‘CJ Dude Ranch’ is in danger of closure before it even gets started.

Even if Tim gets permissions he’s still up against a county ‘no public nudity’ policy in force since 2002. But he’s still optimisitic, “my place is so private,” he said, “and I’m always out washing the bus in the nude.”

So the nude cowboy dream is not over just yet. His website still proudly proclaims:-

We are Clothing Optional but you must wear pants and boots to ride the horses.

That rule is a no-brainer right? As Tim says, “you don’t want blisters on your behind, do you?”.

Bell is a bus driver, 52 years old.  He recently matched his winning numbers in the 649 Lotto, and won $4.3 million.  That’s the good news.

The bad news came as Bell and his wife Treva were on their way to the Lottery offices to claim their winnings - they got news of Treva’s father dying unexpectedly.  The mood went from elated to somber very quickly.

The Bell’s have decided to use their winnings to improve the lives of others, and they will start with their 3 adult children by buying them houses.  They will also pay off their own mortgage.  Bell plans to keep his bus-driving job for a little while, until they figure out what to do with the rest of the money.

The store clerk, Melissa Trahan, told him the ticket was no good.  It was in fact a winner of about $800,000 total.  She pocketed the ticket and later gave it to her mother.  Her mother agreed to present the winning ticket in return for $150,000 of the winnings.

Store cameras later revealed the scam, and mother and daughter are now in prison.  They could be sentenced to as much as 20 years behind bars.

Here’s the sad part - the actual winner may not even receive the money he was rightfully due.  The money has been seized by authorities as evidence.
